Self-Care During Quarantine

by Web Admin, 4 years ago

As our leaders continue to tackle the next course of action during this pandemic, for most Canadians, hopefully the last weeks of isolation is near.

“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”  Psalm 32:7

As the experts continue to debate the next course of action during this pandemic, for most Canadians, another week of self-isolation begins. Though changes have been gradually being implemented like slowly opening a few businesses here and there, the normal “free lifestyle” is still too far from happening.

It might have been nice at first; getting to sleep in, blow off some stress, spend some much-needed time with the family, and having that extra time to do stuff you put off for so long. But as time progressed and the days turned to weeks, the lack of stimulation, may have led to boredom, which leads to idleness, and can breed fear and anxiety.

It goes without saying that self-care during quarantine is crucial. Other than staying physically healthy, it is also imperative that we stay mentally fit as well. And a big part of staying mentally sound is by keeping our spiritual health in check.

Read

If you haven’t already, start with the Bible. It doesn’t even have to be a specific passage, just open it and start reading. You also don’t need to turn it to a Bible study. The Bible is an amazing book, full of exciting stories of adventures, tragedies of civilizations, and the heartbreak of romance. Fascinating characters, from the ballad of Job to the rise of Estherwill be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Write

Literally anything you want. Whether it’s keeping a prayer journal or working on a novel, writing allows you to express your creativity and helps sort out your thoughts. It’s an abstract form of meditation that allows you to go beyond the limits of conventional means. One of the greatest biblical figures was David, whom you may have remembered for writing the book of Psalms. Be like David.

Clean

You might have been putting it off for months, lying to yourself by saying, “well I just don’t have the time”. But now you do. So turn on your radio as well as your vacuum for some spring cleaning. 1 Timothy 3:5 says “For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church?”

Connect

With a few taps on your phone, you could talk to family an ocean away. A few clicks on your laptop and you’re back at the office in a meeting with your workmates. The fact is, in the advent of the l digital age, we have never been so connected. And we need to use this special medium to continue to do so. We should keep uplifting and encouraging those around us, because Lord knows, we need it especially now.

Pray

For ourselves. For your family. For your church. For the sick. For those on the frontlines. For our leaders. For the world.
