Catching the Little Foxes

Today's Devotional by:  J. W. Goll

Today's Devotional Scriptures:

When overwhelmed with loss it’s easy to shut down. “Catching the Little Foxes,” has to do with the sneaky way little, harmless issues can accumulate and bring you down (Song of Solomon 2:15). We begin to think, “I feel cut off. In fact, I feel utterly rejected. I don’t think there’s a place for me in Christ. My future is ruined.”

You know who sends these foxes, don’t you? The devil himself. He is skilled at wrapping the truth in a lie. He is the hopeless one, not you, and he is attempting to lure you into his lair so he can eat you for lunch. Resist him! (1 Peter 5:8-9)

You may think you feel cut off, but if you are in Christ Jesus, you are not — you have been grafted into the family of God with full access to the throne of grace to receive help and mercy in your time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

You do not have to stay where you are. Just because you got lured into a downward spiral of thinking does not mean you have to stay down there. You can take one step after another onto a succession of truths until you come back up to where you can breathe God’s pure air again. Yes, you can! All things are possible.

Romans 12:2 urges us to renew our minds. With the help of the Holy Spirit and reading the Word, your thinking can be transformed so that you can “prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”

To receive God’s help and help from others, you must catch the foxlike thoughts that threaten to undo you.

  • Watch out for downward spirals of thinking.
  • Ask God to heal your memories.
  • Practice “Word grafting”—immersing yourself in the Word of God so that it takes root in your heart and changes how you think and respond.

Prayer:

Father, I choose to believe that I am not a victim, but that I can be victorious in Christ Jesus. I put my life into Your hands. Help me to catch the little foxes that spoil the vine. Restore me from all effects of emotional trauma and abuse. I choose to believe that all things are possible. Now turn my sorrows into places where your abounding grace has the final say. For the glory of God and in Jesus’ name, amen!
