Cowardly Judgement

I think it makes me feel better about myself.

Today's Devotional Scriptures:  Luke 8:22-25

Reference: The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” (‭Luke‬ ‭8‬:‭24‬a NIV)

Explore: We’ve all heard it or been a part of it. The whispers behind hands and the judgement behind closed doors.
“I can’t believe she’s wearing that.” “Did you see what he did?”

Unfortunately it comes so easily to talk about people behind their backs. To make judgements on others without grace or love.

I think it makes me feel better about myself. It makes me feel like I’m smarter, cooler and more superior.

Application: In Luke 8 we see the disciples lacking faith in Jesus and worrying about a storm when they have the Creator of the Universe on board their boat. When it gets beyond their control they shout out to Him.

Luckily I wasn’t on that boat. Instead of calling out to Jesus I would be talking about Him behind His back.
“Can you believe He’s sleeping while we do all the work… It’s not like we’re not tired too… Surely He knows what’s going on, right…”

Not only do I lack faith at times, but I pull people down to make myself feel better.

Let’s learn from my mistakes, as well as those of the disciples. Let’s look to situations with faith and love, knowing our God is there for us and, therefore, displaying His character of grace to every problem.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I pull others down just to make myself feel better. May I have greater faith in You so I don’t feel I need my confidence from any other place. Amen.
