This Body of mine

Today's Devotional Scriptures:

Reflection

You have a Body - in which you are physically present and physically feel.

Place your hand on your chest. Feel the beat of your heart.

Scratch the palm of your hand with your fingertips. Feel the difference in sensation and textures that differentiate skin and fingernail.

Reflect on how extraordinary the human body is - how fearfully and wonderfully you are made.

Introspection

The body is fascinating and wonderful and complex. It constantly generates new cells. It repairs itself. The extremities protect inner organs. The body can endure hardships and strain. The body grows and changes with age. The body is the means through which each person can express, share, create and enjoy life.

It is, however, limited. There is a lifespan to each body. It is not infinite. It is natural. It is a crucial part in the individual - and it is only part.

The body is created in such a way that it enables the experience of pain or pleasure to be felt physically. Dissatisfaction and satisfaction is physically visible in a person. Through the body one can repel in times of danger and can experiences urges in times of desire.

However, your body cannot live without the spirit. The body is alive because of the life which is expressed from within; at its deepest, at its core. Our bodies are good! After all, those are God’s words from the very beginning of time. But since death and sin was conquered through Jesus’ sacrifice and raising to new life, so was the original Adam conquered. These bodies of ours will return to dust one day but the spirit that is imperishable will carry on since the man of heaven is living alive and active in spirit. Jesus gave us our new status, ‘of heaven’, changing the entire course of life forever. Our perishable body on earth is the home of our redeemed spirit within.

Your Next Step

How do you give expression to your spirit through your body? Have you ever asked that questions of yourself before?

Are you someone that prioritises feeling or sensation? Do you set your mind on what is spirit?

Are you someone that prefers addressing temporary desires? Do you prefer expressing what is eternal?

Invite the Holy Spirit to show you as you read the scriptures how to bring the body you have been given into alignment with the spirit man within.
