Chosen to Display God’s Power on Ordinary Days

Today's Devotional Scriptures:

  • Hebrews 4:14-16
  • Psalm 46:1
  • Psalm 5:3
  • Ephesians 1:19-20

God chose you, and He intends to display His power through you. We serve a God of loving, personal, incredible power that becomes available to us as Christians. In fact, when you read of our chosen identity in Ephesians, you’ll find that Paul immediately instructs us about our power as chosen people. He tells us that we have “incomparably great power” that is “the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead” (Eph. 1:19-20a). You have been chosen by a God of power whom the psalmist describes as an “ever-present help in time of need” (Ps. 46:1).

What do you need power for today?

You might need power to defeat discouragement or power to live as an agent of proclamation about Christ in your community. We’re told in Acts 1:8 that we receive power to be witnesses. You might also need power to rise above your circumstances, especially if you feel weak today. You might need supernatural power to engage in spiritual battle or to simply walk in faith and keep in step with God’s spirit today. Finally, you might need God’s power displayed in your life through a specific prayer concern. Remember that we can “approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Heb. 4:16).

Our family keeps a prayer journal because we know God displays His power through supernatural answers to prayer. We take seriously the claim of Psalm 5:3 where David writes, “In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Can you imagine living with the expectation that God will answer your requests and display His power on your behalf?

God chose you to display His power through your life.
