And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing. - 1 Samuel 12:21

Today's Devotional by:  M. Adams

Today's Scriptures:  1 Samuel 12:21

Have you ever wondered what causes us to lose sight of doing God’s will? It’s called distraction. Good and evil thoughts both emerge from our hearts.

What? How can the heart of a true believer have evil thoughts? It happens when we get off track by giving into Satan’s distractions.

1 Samuel 12:21 says, “And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.” Derogatory, negative, complaining, bitter, judgmental, and fault-finding words come from thoughts that derail us. They take us into enemy territory.

A train is designed to run on a track. If it gets derailed, it ceases to operate as intended. The Lord has designed us to endure our myriad trials in life in a way that glorifies him.

COVID has derailed the world. It has thrown us off our natural track. It has also caused hidden, smoldering anger to ignite from within us. The enemy of our soul is using it to destroy us from within. Don’t let him distract you.

It is imperative that we remain steadfast and stay the course. This is a season of untold opportunity to share the gospel. Let’s lean into this time and embrace it. There are great lessons to learn and insights to gain that will strengthen and anchor us.

The word of God is the track to run on. Don’t let Satan derail you from God’s purpose for you. As we read God’s Word and obey it, observing to do it, gaining wisdom and understanding, God’s Spirit will fortify and strengthen us for the good works preordained for us to walk in. Opportunities abound. Let us be watchful and seize them the moment they are set before us.

Prayer:

Father, I ask you to help each one of us cling to you while everything around us is shaking. Thank you for being our steadfast rock and our anchor of hope. May Your character shine forth from us as we walk in your Spirit’s strength. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Throughout This Day:

Invite the Spirit to keep you sensitive to each new opportunity God is placing on your path, then obey Him, trusting in His strength to do so.
